At just 17 years old, Sylvester Oko Nortey has already written his name in Ghana’s sports history books. A passionate and determined teqball player, Nortey made headlines in June 2023 when he and his teammate, Daniel Fobi, clinched Ghana’s first-ever medal at the African Beach Games in Hammamet, Tunisia. Their impressive win in the men’s doubles earned them a bronze medal, defeating Eswatini in straight sets (12–2, 12–4).
What made this achievement even more remarkable was Nortey’s individual performance. Despite dislocating his finger during the tournament, he advanced to the semi-finals in the men’s singles category—a testament to his resilience and unwavering fighting spirit. Though he narrowly missed out on another medal after losing to his Tunisian opponent, his performance sent a powerful message about Ghana’s rising dominance in the teqball world.

Born on December 18, 2007, and standing at 173 cm tall, Nortey has a calm demeanor off the pitch but a fire that burns bright during competition. His commitment and energy have not gone unnoticed. As of 2025, he is ranked #106 in both singles and doubles globally by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ), with a career-best overall ranking of #55—an outstanding feat for someone so young and relatively new to the international scene.

Teqball, a sport blending football and table tennis skills, is still gaining ground in Ghana. But with talents like Nortey leading the charge, the future looks bright. His journey from local practice grounds to international arenas inspires many young athletes across the nation.
