The New Force political movement has issued a public apology following a disturbing incident in which a supporter was physically assaulted by a member of the presidential candidate’s security team. The altercation, which was captured on video and widely circulated online, has sparked public outcry and raised concerns about the safety of political engagement in Ghana.
According to the statement signed by General Secretary Charles Yomekpe, the incident occurred when a supporter attempted to speak with the presidential candidate but was met with unwarranted physical force from a security personnel. The statement emphasized that the individual was unarmed, posed no threat, and deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.“We extend our sincerest apologies to the victim and their family, and to all Ghanaians who rightly expect better conduct from those associated with our movement,” the letter stated.
It also underscored the movement’s commitment to democratic values, emphasizing that “no individual, supporter or otherwise, should ever be subjected to violence.”The New Force assured the public that a full investigation into the incident has been launched and that the perpetrator would be held accountable under both legal and internal disciplinary measures. The group reaffirmed its dedication to restoring public trust and ensuring such incidents do not occur again.“We thank the public for bringing this matter to light and for holding us to the highest standard,” the statement concluded.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of accountability, transparency, and professionalism within political organizations, especially during a highly charged electoral season.
