The Government of Ghana under President John Dramani Mahama has made plans to extend the Free Senior High School Policy to include Private Senior High Schools in the country.
During a press conference by Deputy Education Minister Dr Clement Apaak on Tuesday, May 28 2025 in Accra, the decision to extend the Free SHS policy to private schools is under the promises made by current president John Mahama during his campaign days.
The Deputy Minister of Education explained that the policy which is set to be implemented soon after several consultations with heads of private schools seeks to reduce large number of people in public schools and and decrease the pressure on public school facilities.
The Free SHS policy started under the Akuffo Addo government is said to have been welcomed by private schools as they have shown interest and willingness to meet the required standards set out by the Free SHS policy.
Dr. Apaak therefore assured that the Government will do its best to maintain the quality and integrity of the Free SHS policy as more schools get on board.
