Education Ministry outline directives on School selection for BECE 2025 Candidates

On Tuesday, May 27th 2025 the Ministry of Education – Ghana Launched the New Guidelines On the selection of Schools for 2025 BECE Candidates. 

During a Press Conference, the New Guidelines will follow the old ways of Selection of Schools where candidates will be made to select schools before sitting for the BECE Examination. 

During the Meeting the Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Clement Apaak stated that no teacher is expected to choose schools for Stydents without the knowledge of Parents or Guardians. He stated that this measure is expected to promote transparency and impact students positively. 

Mrs. Be it a Sena the Free SHS Coordinator encouraged parents to take active part in school selection process for their wards citing that it is a critical moment in the academic journey of the child. 

Below is the New School Selection process for 20205 BECE Candidates. 

*2025 SHS/TVET School Selection Guidelines* 

Candidates are required to select 7 schools in total, following these guidelines:

First 5 Schools

1. *First choice (Category A school)*

2. *Second choice (Category B Boarding school)*

3. *Third choice (Category B Day school)*

4. *Fourth choice (Category C or D school)*

5. *Fifth choice (Category C or D school)*

Last 2 Schools (from Appendix 3)

6. *Sixth choice*

7. *Seventh choice*

Boarding and Day Requirements

– *3 Boarding schools*

– *2 Day schools*
