Spanish Giants Real Madrid has officially unveiled former player Xabi Alonso as new Head Coach if the team following the departure of previous manager Carlo Ancelloti.
The 43-year-old Spaniard returns to his boyhood club where he won several honours as a manager before announcing his plans to become a Coach. He took over the Real Sociedad B team in the 2019 – 2022 season before joining German Side Bayern Leverkusen from 2022-2025.
Xabi Alonso after winning several titles with such as the German Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal with Bayern Leverkusen has signed a three-year deal with Real Madrid which will see him stay in the club until June 2028.
During his presentation at the Estadio De Santiago Bernabeu in Spain, Xabi Alonso appreciated his predecessor Carlo Ancelloti for doing great work with the club.
He also assured the fans he would make them proud during his era.
“I don’t want to stop talking about the era that has come to an end, about the replacement I’m taking over from Carlo Ancelotti. Carlo was my coach, a great person, a coach who left his mark on me, and probably without his mastery and the learning I received from him, I wouldn’t be here. I take up his legacy with great honour and pride.”
“We want to make the fans proud, to transmit feelings of joy and exhilaration. We want people to come to the stadium to enjoy themselves. If we can ignite this spirit, we will be an unstoppable force. Thank you, Hala Madrid.”
The new Real Madrid Coach will work with his backroom staff including Sebastián Parrilla (assistant coach), Alberto Encinas (assistant), Ismael Cameforte-López (physical trainer), Beñat Labaien (analyst).
